Google Desktop vs. Yahoo! Widget Engine
Posted by smanofsteel76 on April 8, 2007
I would like to take back everything I said in my previous posts about Yahoo! Widget Engine! After switching from Google Desktop briefly last week to Yahoo! Widgets, I saw the performance of my computer slowly get worse. I am not sure how much RAM each one consumes but if I were to guess then Yahoo! Widget Engine takes much more. Also I find that the interface is kind of cumbersome because unlike Google Gadgets, Yahoo! Widgets sit on your desktop. You can have Google Gadgets on your desktop if you prefer but they most commonly reside in the sidebar which keeps them neat and organized. The widget dock in YWE is trying to mimic that without copying Google but it falls short. So my advice for people who want gadgets/widgets on their machine, please check out Google Desktop. Together with Google services, Google Desktop is a very useful, easy, and clean application. Never again will I switch without doing my homework, so please learn from my mistake and download Google Desktop!
